In Your Hands

Posted on Mon Jun 25th, 2012 @ 8:54pm by Rear Admiral Relau Chlan (Ret.)

Greetings all,

Wow, it's been a long time. I think that I almost forgot my password to the Shanghai there for a while, with how long it has been. I'm writing today in this news post to explain what Nathaniel and I would like to do with the Shanghai. But we will need your help. All of this is detailed below, so I'd like all of you who still even receive the emails to just take a look at it and consider it.

First of all, there is absolutely no excuse that I can give for the lack of activity that I have shown over the previous months. I got really depressed over the loss of our main advertising partner, Memory Alpha. Memory Alpha was brining in over 90% of our traffic for a while. The Google Analytics aren't pretty. They went from an average of 60-70~ unique vists a day to under 5. That was really a bad thing for me and it was hard for me to reconcile. I thought about trying to advertise more, but for the traffic we were getting we would have had to advertise at $500/bi-weekly, and since it was all banners, 90% of people have ad blockers anyway. It was insane. So, the $30 a month that I was paying on Memory Alpha was the best investment I had done in a long time, and corporate greed got in the way. But, that's just part of the story. The rest of it is just my own busy schedule and lack of intereest, really. For that I'm sorry.

Second, Nathaniel and I would like to start the Shanghai again. We've been brainstorming for the past couple of weeks and come up with a plot that would answer a bunch of questions that were left behind across a few of our missions (What happened to Cai? Anyone?) and would serve as a great platform for a variety of missions. So, now it comes to the real meat of the question. We would like to invite old players back (those on the inactive list), your friends, your acquantiances and your families to the Shanghai once again.

Nathaniel and I would like to see each one of you there. And this time, we're going to come out on top. Because the whole point of this simm is to have fun. And we weren't doing that in Obsidian Fleet, which was part of the reason why we fell apart. No, we aren't going back (I'm not even considering it) because we want the Shanghai to be fun.

If you would like to undertake this huge endevour with us, we can't do it without you. It might go slow for a while and we all might have redshirt NPCs that do everything from cook dinner to evacuate everyone, but I'm committed to this.

If you would like to help us out with this, return the Shanghai to its former glory, please leave me a note in my email. Those that don't respond will be asked again, a personal plea from myself, and after a time, will be moved to the inactive list. We'll need everyone's help though, so if you'e willing, we're ready and waiting.

With deepest apologies and many thanks,
William C and Nathaniel S
