Personality & Traits

General Overview Zein has a very serene and calm demeanor under most circumstances. He hates to see anyone suffer and will do anything to help those in need even if it puts himself in danger. His past has made it difficult for him to form close attachments very easily. Friendship and trust, in his eyes, are something that has to be earned. They are not earned easily either. He doesn't speak of his past or feelings to anyone who hasn't earned that trust. He is, however, friendly to most and has a good sense of humor. All in all, people like him, but find him a little distant and guarded. He is also a very spiritual person and believes that the Federation's creed of peace and cooperation mesh very well with his Bajoran spititual beliefs.
Strengths & Weaknesses Dr. Varr is an excellent physician and is very skilled in his art. His calm demeanor and empathetic attitude aid him in being able to bond with his patients and to put them at ease. His work ethic is strong and he will go to any lengths to get his job done. On the downside, he often gets too emotionally attached to his patients and tends to sometimes let their pain and suffering affect him more than it should. When it comes to himself, though, he can be rather dismissive toward his own pain and suffering. He is reluctant to seek assistance from others in these regards.
Ambitions Zein wanted to be a healer from an early age. He made this decision a long time ago as a youth on Bajor. When his peers were taking up arms and fighting the Cardassian's brutality with their own, he chose another path. He fights oppression with compassion and death with life. He's never wanted to do anything else. Zein is a doctor - exactly what he desires to be.
Hobbies & Interests Dr. Varr has a love for the science and history. He also studies comparative religion. The doctor also has a love of the arts, especially music. He even has a mediocre grasp on a few musical instruments. He is a novice, of course, and tends to follow that particular interest in private.

Personal History

Personal History Zein grew up on Bajor during the Cardassian Occupation. He was an orphaned as a small child after the death of his entire family at the hands of the Cardassians. As a youth he would often help the doctors and healers in the refugee camps, even if it was only to hold someone's hand as they died. He learned much about triage medicine and herbal remedies during his time in the camps. He also learned a lot about death. Just prior to leaving Bajor, he suffered his final and most poignant loss. His best friend and lover was mortally wounded while on a raid with the Resistance. Zein was helpless to save the young man and his death nearly sent Zein over the edge. To this day, Dr. Varr considers each life he has saved a sort of penance for not being able to save Aden's life. At 17, finally broken, he managed to escape the horrors of his home world and eventually made his way to Starfleet Academy.

Starfleet Records

Service Record After graduating from the Academy Dr. Varr went straight to medical school. He earned high marks and was an excellent student in both of these educational ventures. After gaining his commission he was sent back to the newly-liberated Bajor for his first assignment. Returning to his home world, however, was emotionally difficult on him and he put in for reassignment at the first available chance. Then he served as a triage specialist on a Federation medical ship for the majority of the Dominion War. The doctor's record is above satisfactory, but he has two marks on his record for disobeying orders and disregarding his own safety. In both of these instances he felt that his duty as a healer outweighed and conflicted with his duty as a Starfleet officer.
Language Proficiency Zein speaks Fed. Standard and Bajoran. He also has a good grasp of the Cardassian tongue.
